This is exactly the thing a child might think, if it was Snowing in Hawaii. Whether it would really happen or not is irrelevant, because it is all about the imagination. The author has plenty of that.
The book It’s Snowing in Hawaii, by Mike Guardia, is a unique and fun read. With each turn of the page comes an entertaining and educational rhyme of favorite Hawaiian culture and history mixed in with the unusual – snow! It is clever, fun and creative!
The illustrations are detailed and compliment the author’s writing exactly. I especially loved the snowmen wearing grass skirts, seashell buttons, and pineapple eyes.
A whimsical and fun read for all ages and across all states, this book will have you wanting to book your next vacation to Hawaii – sun or snow!

This is a delightful whimsical tale of – snow in Hawaii. A state known for its tropical sunny paradise suddenly covered with snow and ice. What would happen?
The author takes us, through lyrical verse, on a magical trip around the Honolulu, Hawaii area. He artfully interweaves verses about typical Honolulu highlights, adding an interesting twist. Rather than sun and sand we have snow and ice.
What are we to do? Adapt to the new reality and make the most of it. The author creatively takes the splendor of paradise and covers it with the novelty of snow and ice. Mixing snow and sun in Hawaii make for a lot of fun.
Children will love the rhyme and the fanciful story. Adults will marvel at the creativity and imagination.
This is a fun little children’s book about it snowing in Hawaii, something I don’t think has ever happened. The kids get their very first snow day off from school and are out busy playing in it!
The Good
This books is well drawn with beautiful, bright, colorful pictures. It’s written well for a kid to understand.
The Bad
Now the statement about this book says it’s in Rhyme. If it was I didn’t notice it, so it was a very low key rhyme, not like Dr. Seuss rhyme. Also in the story it talks about things that I don’t think exist in Hawaii, why would anybody own a Snowmobile or a bobsled in Hawaii? And in one of the pictures it shows a native person wearing Eskimo type clothing… Just can’t think too hard about this one.
And it of course has DRM, so I have to subtract a point for that.
My son loved the story and pictures. Nice job, authors. I personally thought this book was well done. The pop up style is awesome.
One of the best things we can teach our children is the importance of imagination. Mike Guardian does an excellent job teaching just that in this great book.
